It was my husband’s 60th birthday this week and I wanted to make him a special bowl for his spare change. I have a nice piece of walnut that I was planning to use, but this bowl had been sitting around partly completed for a few years. When I was working on it I was really nervous about something going wrong so I set it aside until I was braver about the whole thing.
I made the edge a lot thinner but left it fairly shallow to be able to see the bottom from more angles. There were some cracks that I filled with clear epoxy; I thought that if the wood wanted to have cracks, then I would include them. In hindsight, I should have filled the cracks with wood dust.
I’m happy with the result and my husband is delighted with it. He said that he wouldn’t use it for change though.
